Onye Nice Cake

There is a photograph in Onye's portfolio that gave me pause. A traditional Igbo engagement cake: black tier crowned with a gold calabash, coral beads at the base, macarons fanned out, the whole thing styled with the kind of care that only someone who knows what an Igbo introduction looks like would attempt. Then I scrolled. Royal blue ruffled birthday cakes. Pink and white tiers with cherries on top. Trays of jollof rice and peppered asun. Puff puff and samosas laid out the way only someone who has fed a real Lagos party knows how to lay them out. Her name does not tell the whole story. Onye Nice Cake is a full event caterer who happens to lead with sugar. She carries the whole table, from the calabash crown to the puff puff bowl, with the same care. That is rare. That is why she is on the cohort.
